oh, boy!

little girls don't have all the fun, this wallpaper would be so adorable in a little boy's bathroom:

"out to sea map" in fogged in by Ralph Lauren

and for the bedroom, i think i'd wallpaper the ceiling in this:

"expedition novelty" in spice by Ralph Lauren Home

then i'd find a fabric like this and have a duvet made:

Luberon Plaid Schumacher Fabric
Luberon Plaid in Bittersweet by F.Schumacher

and the room is taking shape.  i'm thinking heavy textures, neutral walls and a rug like:

Sunset by Mathew Williamson for The Rug Company

all available to the trade only.

Build a beautiful table

with wedding season upon us, if you know a couple who are architecture enthusiasts, here are some soup bowls would do the trick (quite beautifully)

Alessandro Zambelli - dinnerware set - ideas for friends and family - holiday shopping
Alessandro Zambelli ceramic palace tableware

these Florentine-inspired Renaissance homes can set the entire table.  best part: you don't have to find cabinet space for them and instead showcase your architectural dinnerware s as a centerpiece.  here's the entire set:
from left to right (all roofs are serving dishes)
dinner plates, side plates, small bowl and soup bowl
and here's how it looks as a table setting:

clever, fun and a great set to collect or give (fabulous housewarming gift).  i looooove this!

back to the basics

my Mor-Mor & Mor-far had these in use at their hem (for spreading ooodles of butter) and they've been a staple in my parent's house and now in mine.  love the simplicity of design and how functional they are

these stools (i took from my mom, who i think took them from her mom, my "Mor-Mor") and will try hard to keep my daughter from absconding with them one day.  i'm the 3rd generation to keep these Alva Aalto stools in the house.  we love them for how versatile they are.  they stack easily (i've got 3) and in a pinch use them next to the sofa to keep a glass of wine or cup of tea in close reach.  (great extra seating too)

She has a point

Plain walls are the refuge of the artistically destitute”
Elsie de Wolfe

can't say i disagree.  here's what i'd hang on my walls

"Essence"
truly stretches my imagination and captivates my senses.  i will never tire of this painting.  once you let your eyes relax and get lost in the swatches of color and variation in brush strokes, you'll see something different every time and enjoy the fluidity of the peice.  and the palette is beautiful.  definitly gets center stage in a living room.  it's subtle nature begs for the painting to be seen in person.  the internet just doesn't do it justice.

"Fast Embrace"
to me, it looks like love feels.  truly a romantic painting, it belongs in a bedroom for its dreamy take on the rush of feelings in the beginning of a relationship.

"Charles Bridge a la Reich"
i love it for its moody and haunting atmosphere.  the shadows and hazy light areas have me wanting the fog to lift so i can see more.  intruiging and beautiful.

There's more to see and experience at http://www.johnhetzel.com/ .
I also adore Beatriz Milhazes

"Sinfonia Nordestina"

and am especially anraptured by her installation:

this would be so much fun to have in a long narrow hallway!!!!  you can check out more by her at http://www.jamescohan.com/

YES! please!

in a word: perfect:

i seriously adore this table.  the lines are so sexy and the white top is totally unexpected.  great wood tone.
(if left to my own devices, i'd very quickly become a table horder).

p.s. i'd love if someone could identify this console for me so that credit could be given to the genius behind it....
